<p class="Paragraph">Suppose you have inserted a chart in a <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Calc document and want to apply a color gradient to the legend.</p>

<p class="P2">Double-click on the chart.</p>
<p class="P2">A gray border appears around the chart and the menu bar now contains commands for editing the objects in the chart.</p>

<p class="P2">Choose <span class="T1">Format - Legend</span> or double-click on the legend. This opens the <span class="T1">Legend</span> dialog.</p>

<p class="P2">Select, for example, the <span class="T1">Area</span> tab if you want to modify the background of the legend. From the combo box select <span class="T1">Gradient.</span> Select a gradient from the list.</p>

<p class="P2">Click OK. In your document, click outside the chart to exit chart editing mode.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can define your own gradients, hatching, bitmaps and colors in <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Draw.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">To select the legend, first double-click on the chart (see step 1), then click on the legend. You can now move the legend within the chart using the mouse.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you move the legend over another object of the chart, you can no longer open its Properties dialog by double-clicking on it. To open the Properties dialog either use the <span class="T1">Format</span> menu or click once on the legend, then open the context menu and select <span class="T1">Object Properties</span>. The same applies to all other objects of the chart.</p>
